Cuba Absolutely Review: June 2012
El Hurón Azul was for a long time one of a stable of good quality paladares with a loyal following. It was closed down for a couple of years between 2008-2011 and only re-opened in late 2011. This is just off the main La Rampa track between the Hotels Nacional and Habana Libre, which means it is a short hop for many people. Don’t be put off by the slightly run-down street and exterior because inside it is charming with plenty of artwork to lighten the mood and make up for the lack of windows.
Probably the worst feature of this place is that it can get a little smoky so if you want to eat dinner without nicotine on the side you could probably give it a miss. The service is excellent and as befits a place with a long track record they know what they are doing.
The speciality of the house is smoked pork served with a pineapple sauce. Other dishes are adventurous and provide something different from the standard fare even in other paladares. Desserts are good and include chocolate mousse and fresh fruit ice creams and sorbets.
