  • Cuba Absolutely Review: December 2012

La Finca is about as good as it gets for a Cuban state-owned place. This is set in the suburbs of Siboney past the Convention Centre and is very upmarket. It was run in the past by Cuba’s gastronomic guru Tomás Erasmo (I’m not completely sure these days).

This has a feeling of a country club when you pull up at the extensive driveway and walk through the beautiful mansion to the expansive terrace, which is a riot of greenery and birds (mostly caged!).

This is the sort of place that lends itself to large visiting groups drawing up on the bus. If you come on your own, you are likely to find it either empty or full with the said tour bus, neither of which really suits. I would never think of coming here, simply because it suffers from a certain sterility for all of the greenness and the food, which, while it is reasonably good, does not merit the high prices.
