Back in the day of there only being a dozen decent paladares in Havana, La Paila was worth a visit even if every time you went there you ended up driving around Marianao looking for the place. Now I am not so sure. The place is still as charming with lots of wooden tables ensconced in a garden replete with soft-lit lanterns and quality food, but is it really worth the trek?
Food wise, it always did a fine Bistec Uruguayo (fried, breaded pork stuffed with ham and cheese) not to mention decent pasta and pizza dishes.
I have not been back in a while so cannot comment on how it has fared with the wave of new places having increased the competition. My sense is that this is simply too far from where the action is and, unless you want a discreet location, there are probably better places closer by.
