  • I have been to a few parties at 1830 where it would be fair to say that ‘old-world opulence meets Hollywood glamour in this eclectic-style house’. Unfortunately, on an ordinary night, this is simply not the case. The ambience is formal and stiff and despite the gorgeous building, the decoration has simply not kept pace and this looks another faded location trying to be something that it is not really.

Chandeliers, antique furniture and palace like table settings abound but still don’t really do it for me. The food is OK and includes duck, pork and chicken in lemon-and-honey sauce but really should be a lot better especially considering the prices.

After the kitchen closes at 10pm, on some nights there is live music and salsa dancing in the garden behind the restaurant. Indeed on nights where the Friday night party crowd come by, this is the place to be and the place will be packed and buzzing. Probably better to have dinner elsewhere and come back for the party, to be honest.

The one time when you should definitely make it here is when someone like Havana Club/Essencia has organized a private party, for then the place can really be seen to its full potential.
