  • Walking in on a rainy night to Bon Appetite was like walking into an oasis. We had tried a few other places nearby which were all deserted, dead. We had put it down to the weather and planned to head home. ‘Let’s try one last place’. There were no free tables at Bon Appetite; the place was packed with both clients and a warm family Sunday night atmosphere.

The main restaurant is out the back of a lovely Miramar mansion. It is open plan with wooden ceilings. The kitchen is in full sight through transparent glass, which lets you get a good idea of what’s going on. Originally more of a thatched ranchón without a roof, incremental renovations over the years have made this a sophisticated place which would fit in anywhere in the world.

The menu has an Italian focus (pizzas and pastas) but also with plenty of international dishes. I like the fact that it is not trying to be all things, to be all people; limited but good: Filet Mignon – 250gm CUC 10, Pollo Asado con barbacoa de naranjas (roast chicken with oranges) CUC 8, Gambitas a la plancha (grilled shrimp) CUC 10, Garbanzos fritos del chef (chef’s fried chickpea) CUC 5 and Pulpitos al ajo con aceite de oliva extra virgin (octopus with garlic and extra virgin olive oil) CUC5. Tiramisu de la casa (house tiramisu) CUC 3.50. When our food came I was a little disappointed since it was average not great; the service however is professional, fast and efficient.
