  • This is a modest residence dating from the early 19th century whose fundamental worth stems from its being the birthplace of Cuban National Heroe José Martí. Architecturally, its interest lies in the fact that it is an excellently preserved example of humble homes of the colonial period, of which there are not many. The museum was created on the initiative of journalist Arturo Carricarte, who together with a group of other Cubans fought a PR battle with the aim of gathering, cataloging and preserving items and documents that belonged to Cuba’s National Hero. The house was restored in 1963 and it is a National Monument
