  • Cuba Absolutely Review: January 2012

Chaplin’s opened in January 2012 as the new kid on the block. Now it is almost a veteran!

You will know you are in the right place when you see someone dressed up as Charlie Chaplin outside. I am not sure how long this will last but it is a nice touch and sign of the effort they are making. There are two basic seating areas, outside for the smokers on slightly uncomfortable metal chairs and inside in one of two attractive and light and airy rooms. Both with plenty of Chaplin memorabilia.

Chaplin’s is specializing in breakfast and tapas place with a range of reasonably price tapas forming an attractive menu. The food itself, however, when we visited was frankly disappointing. We will check back in a couple of months since maybe this is just teething problems at the start and we like the look of the place, just not the final delivery. Two young musicians played the violin through the course of our dinner, which again is a nice touch, but by the dessert I was swearing never to go to another violin concert again!

    Closing of Chaplin’s

What a shame. This paladar started off on the right foot. Conveniently located in Miramar, the décor was chic, the trendy food good and the service friendly. Sadly not long after the opening, the overall quality of the place seemed to stall and then go downhill. Even best efforts to set the right ambience with a violin player seemed to backfire. In my last visit, I had to wait about 20 minutes for a glass of wine while my main dish was finally brought to the table when my friends had already finished eating. So, Chaplin’s is no more. Viva Chaplin’s.

    Dec 2012:

The fiddler at Chaplin’s: This fairly new paladar in Miramar has really good-looking indoor and outdoor sitting areas. The food options are good and the prices reasonable. Nevertheless the management has decided (I am sure with good intentions) to provide entertainment for the evening guests in form of a fiddler with a very limited repertoire. In one of the recent visits we listened to the same songs three to four times. My suggestion to the fiddler: increase your repertoire or take longer breaks.
