  • This building was once the house of Claudio Martínez de Pinillos, a 19th-century celebrity who played an important role in the Island’s economic, scientific and literary growth of the time, now home to one of Old Havana’s best hotels: Conde de Villanueva. If you have not been in, then you must since this is pure boutique class especially if you are a cigar lover.

The interior of the hotel is often used to showcase Cuban contemporary visual artists (both photography and art work). The restaurant is to the end of the courtyard to the right and looks cute enough without ever really making an impression.

It specializes in Cuban and international cuisine and local recipes include a variety of delicious traditional dishes which date back to the 19th century, such as the fish fillet garnished with sugarcane and seasoned with ginger sauce. The one time we ate there, it was pretty average, which was unsurprising but nonetheless disappointing since I love the hotel, the cigar lounge upstairs and the courtyard. Probably best to come sip a mojito and get dinner elsewhere!
