Less tourist-oriented than the rest of the Playas del Este beaches, Guanabo is popular with Cuban families. Quinta Avenida, with horse carts for those who don’t really enjoy walking, is filled with small private businesses (mainly food stands), coffee-shops, two ice-cream parlors, several restaurants, a recently renovated amusement park and an Infortur office. There are plenty of casas particulares (private houses or rooms for rent) as well as houses for rent by the government.
