  • The building that houses La Mina and which was the residence of the bishops of the nearby principal Parrish Church back in the 16th and 17th centuries was refurbished in 1985 and became La Mina Restaurant. Today, La Mina is a large rambling complex which includes a sweet shop, bar, café, ice-cream parlour and restaurant. Located opposite Plaza de Armas, the view of the square is lovely and the various eating areas light, airy and comfortable, a perfect escape form the noonday sun.

This is classified as another Creole place that serves the standard fare of pork, chicken and fish with some variations. I have never had an exceptional meal here but you could do worse. The real issue here is that with its fabulous location, there will always be tourists passing by who come in, sustain the place, never come back but it doesn’t matter since this is a place you pass by and enter rather than especially one you would ever seek out.

  • Juana la Cubana

    Juana la Cubana  LH 2+

This is an outdoor restaurant with quality food and reasonable prices. You have to take a picture with Juana la Cubana’s horse and then sit back to enjoy a good Cuban Creole meal.

    Casa Española  LH 2

What do you do with an old castle in the middle or Miramar? Turn it into a restaurant of course. This is at least easy to find driving down 7ma (7th Ave.). This house is a medieval parody built in the …

    1830 Restaurant  LH 2

I have been to a few parties at 1830 where it would be fair to say that ‘old-world opulence meets Hollywood glamour in this eclectic-style house’. Unfortunately, on an ordinary night, this is simply n …

    La Tasquita

    La Tasquita  LH 2+

This is a classic old-school Cuban paladar, which offers authentic charm in a Cuban kitsch Centro Habana way. Although some of the dishes are ridiculously overpriced (CUC 8-12), the owner is lovely, w …

    La Giraldilla  LH 2

Opinions vary at La Giraldilla. It is next to the Macumba nightclub, which is extremely popular on nights when good groups are playing. The entire complex is very upmarket featuring acres of white mar …

Casa de la Amistad – Primavera  LH 2

If you like interior design, then a table for dinner at this exquisite mansion built in the 1920’s by the wealthy Catalina Lasa is a must. The food is pretty standard fare but the house is to die for. …
