Opened on May 2, 2001, the small yet immensely impressive Playing Card Museum occupies the ground floor of the Casa del Marqués de Prado Amero, dating from the 17th century and the oldest building in the square. It later served as home of José Martín Félix de Arrate (1701-1765), considered the first Cuban historian.
It displays to more than 2,000 decks of playing cards from around the globe and dating back to the 19th century, spanning themes from rock stars and divinity to tarot. The museum also exhibits commercial documents, plus instruments used in manufacturing cards.
