  • Razones is a mid-tier place, which attracts a middle class Cuban crowd, and tourists staying nearby in this residential neighbourhood. Even mid week there is a busy feel to the place, which is explained, by an unpretentious feel, reasonable prices and good size portions. Personally I was left a little cold by the decoration and internal setting – there is no ocean view here or external terracing but it is attractive, almost stylish.

The menu is one of those books where it is almost easier to ask what they don’t serve. 10 types of fish and shrimps, 4 styles of lobster, pizza and pasta. Steaks and pork. Given that prices are very reasonable (CUC 4-6 for a main course and only CUC 13 for the lobster), you should not expect gourmet cuisine but on the other hand everything, which we ate, was decent, well cooked and nicely accompanied (if a little unimaginative).

    The claustrophobic décor at Razones

This is an unpretentious paladar with a simple, but good menu (grilled fish, grilled pork, garlic shrimp and a few Indian surprises), very friendly staff and reasonable prices. It is casual and a favorite for many Cuban families and tourists. Nevertheless there is neither a single window in the place nor anything in the décor to relieve the cluttered look and claustrophobic feeling. Some professional help in interior decoration could help, but it is still a fairly good place food and price-wise. You may want to give it a try whenever you run out of options.
