  • The Unión Francesa is one of those places that seem stuck in a netherworld of not quite being sure what it is–state restaurant, association, paladar. I can never tell; it simply is not obvious. It is situated in a lovely corner mansion by the John Lennon park, which (prior to the opening of the Yellow Submarine Club) was one of Vedado’s quieter areas.

This is a reasonably popular place, which serves reasonable but not exceptional food. The place to be is definitely all the way up to the spacious roof terrace, which is surrounded by plants with a beautiful view of the green calm Vedado. Waiters are eager to please and the smoked chicken served with lemon sauce speciality is definitely tasty and reasonably priced (CUC 6).
